Job Description
Technical Skills and Competencies:-

* Design, configuration, support & troubleshooting of core routing protocols within an ISP infrastructure including ISIS, BGP and MPLS, plus detailed knowledge of core ISP technologies including PPP, L2TP, IXPs, Tiered Internet access, MPLS-VPNS (Layer 3 and Layer 2), Metro Ethernet, QoS, Internet Routing, Spanning Tree, DDoS Mitigation

* Detailed knowledge of WAN a& LAN technologies & supporting features including Ethernet, Fibre, FHRP, Load balancing, IP SLA, QoS, BGP, EEM, VPNs, Wi-Fi, NAT & experience of Cisco routing and switching (IOS and IOS-XE).

A highly-developed understanding of business-critical services including, VoIP, E-mail, Remote Access, DNS, Wireless Networking, Disaster Recovery

* A highly-developed understanding of network security technologies/features/best practices and the configuration and support of ACLs, AAA, IP Sec, IOS Firewall, Remote Access and SSL VPN, Hardware Firewalls, Control Plane Security, Routing Protocol Security, with experience of administering and supporting ISP services and infrastructure for adds/moves/changes including DNS, Radius, FTP, Linux, experience of network management applications and services such as Cacti, PRTG, TACACS, Netflow, SNMP, TFTP, NTP

Solution Design, Implementation and Support

* Ability to take a set of requirements & produce a technical solution based on up to date standards, technologies and best practice, recommend and implement improvements to core and customer solutions, create quality, customer-facing technical documentation

* Act as focal point for technical & non-technical escalations within the business and develop migration plans ensuring service disruption is minimal, propose solutions that work within current business constraints (budget, time, resource, etc), ensure any supporting documentation/diagrams/etc are kept up to date, create guides & process documents for basic, repeatable activities

Incident Management

Implement all reasonable diagnostic tools and aids, including but not limited to:

* Liaise with service partners & own the issue through to final resolution, communication with the affected user(s) throughout the life of the fault

* All faults logged and tracked in a ticketing system for audit & handover purposes

* Device interrogation, Device logs, Monitoring data, Packet captures & analysis

* On-site support as and when required with Out of hours support and call-outs as and when required, implement major incident process in the event of a serious service outage, create a Reason for Outage (RfO) and distribute to customers affected by a serious service outage

Pro-Active Monitoring

* Ensure all active nodes involved in the end-to-end delivery of the service are monitored from our central management stations

* Ensure all critical elements of nodes are monitored

* Retain an up to date archive of all configuration files

* Create custom alerts for serious security breaches or underlying problems, create aggregate graphs for shared resources

Capacity Management

* Create thresholds to monitor critical elements and pro-actively alert when thresholds are breached

* Review thresholds to identify potential capacity problems and take action where necessary

* Apply sensible oversubscription and review capacity against current and future projects, IP address management (allocations, justifications, updating records, etc)

Templates and Standards

* Create templated configurations which adhere to current best practice

* Develop and maintain standards to improve efficiency

* Create standard commissioning and decommissioning processes, ensure compliance with standards and templates

* Review standards and templates regularly and adjust as necessary

Project Management

* Own and manage technical operation projects, manage technical and non-technical suppliers as part of the delivery process

* Ensure internal team is aware of progress on projects and advise of potential problems, delays or additional costs, ensure deliveries are on track and escalate internally or with suppliers when necessary

Change Management

* Log requests for change in ticketing system and review to determine applicable charges if necessary

* Implement changes as agreed with requestor and ensure changes are fully tested

* Plan and prepare service affecting core changes with full impact and risk assessment

* Notify affected customers of core changes including duration, impact and risk
