Technical Team Leader

Location: Cambridge

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 p.a.

Due to continuous growth my clients are recruiting a Team Leader to motivate, lead and develop a team of 6 software engineers.


The successful candidate will be leading a team of Software Engineers to implement the strategy and vision for our clients services platform under the direction of the Services Development Manager. You will be delivering business critical projects whilst managing the day to day activities of the development team and acting as the Technical Lead.

This is a line manager and development role which requires an understanding of the business model and its deployment to deliver a dependable service that supports end-users, distribution partners. The range of service solutions include management systems for customer, distribution management, logistics, manufacturing and mobile payments;

By working within the Services Development team, you will be contributing to the current and next generation of solutions and processes.

Team Leader Aspects of the Role:

* Lead a team of Software Engineers in the creation of high quality software within agreed project deadlines and in alignment with the Services Development Manager's direction * Assume an elevated level of ownership of all the work developed by the members of the team * Supervise, train and guide team members * Train and integrate new team members and proactively support the continued development of existing team members

Technical Lead Aspects of the Role:

* Provide direction and guidance to the Developers in the Services Development Team * Oversee the technologies, tools and techniques used within the team * Ensure that development standards, policies and procedures are adhered to * Actively contribute to the process of continual improvement, with regards to team and systems, as well as development environment and release processes to support an efficient and robust development process and release management process. * Ensure that all software developed within your team satisfies the business requirements as specified.

Development Aspects of the Role:

* Carryout functional development and testing, from requirements capture through to validation and release, following defined coding standards and methodologies * Analyse and define the requirements for supporting Operations, Distribution Management, Logistics, Mobile Payment, Business Management and other needs of the business * Support definition and delivery of a robust high-availability system architecture which supports scaling of the business to more than 1M customers * Maintain appropriate support documentation

Essential Requirements:

* BA or MA degree in Software Engineering * Essential to have experience leading a team using agile methodologies * Essential to have experience working with:

* Strongly typed Object Oriented Languages, such as Java or C# * Relational database development * Modern web standards (HTML5 / CSS3) as well as JavaScript and jQuery

* Experience in full software development lifecycle from design to deployment * Experience recruiting staff and building development teams * Relevant professional track record in developing systems with high availability and high volume of transactions * Strong understanding of programming fundamentals; algorithms, data structures, Object Oriented programming * Strong understanding of relational database concepts * Demonstrate the capability to rapidly grasp the basics of new tools and processes * Experience recruiting staff and building development teams * Attention to detail and commitment to quality * Strong written and oral communication skills

Desired Requirements:

* Experience in Java Spring Framework, with MVC * Experience in Stored Procedure Programming in MySQL and MySQL database management * Experience in Mercurial Source Control and Bit Bucket, Debian Linux system use and administration * Passionate about keeping up to date with emerging technologies, languages and practices
